This morning I got to cuddle with Punkin Pie for a few minutes before The Bean woke up. I heard her talking to herself so I went in to get her and she was sitting up in her bed! I know that The Bean can sit herself up on the floor when she's rolling around, but this is the first time I've walked in and had her greet me that way! She's getting so big!
It's funny in a way, I am seeing the toddler she will eventually be in her when I'm cuddling her and watching her start to make her own demands and display her own opinions. And at the same time, I'm watching Punkin Pie, who I expect so much from, and seeing her for the little child/ baby girl that she really is. I've gotten use to her being such a big girl, but it wasn't long ago that she was my little baby. And though she is growing and maturing so fast, she's still my little baby girl. And she needs me just as much as The Bean does, if not more so. Though she still pops up with crazy things like the other day, when she said "mom, we own this city." Where on earth does she come up with this stuff?!

After I got The Bean we all snuggled in bed a bit, and giggled and played a while. The Bean has gotten to the point that, while she loves Punkin Pie's attention, she does not like to be touched or grabbed too much. As soon as Punkin Pie gets beyond The Bean's bubble, The Bean just growls at her! It's the funniest thing! But she knows that it gets mom and dad's attention. So it works for her!
After we played for a while, it was time for The Bean's morning nap, so Punkin Pie helped me put her down, and we got going on our chores for the day. Since it was Monday once again my big chore for the day was the bathroom. So Punkin Pie 'helped' me wipe down the mirror, walls and counter tops. I then sprayed down the shower with the homemade vinegar and dish soap concoction and left it to sit. It's definitely one of my favorites! Even though it truly does stink!
My new goal is to make as many of my own non-toxic cleaners and typical home remedies as possible. Ideally, we would be completely free of purchasing soaps and cleaning supplies not to mention all the other product possibilities. The other day I made baby wash and stored it in a re-purposed blackberry jam jar. Then I realized I needed more baby wipes, so I was able to use my own baby wash to make the wipes! Such a great feeling! And they smelled fabulous - almond and lemon. My friend's little girl tried to eat hers! lol!
I was discussing this topic recently with my Aunt, and she mentioned that she had a natural cleaning products recipe book! I borrowed it this weekend and I am SO excited to try some of the great recipes and ideas! I'm also thinking about giving my own shampoo a try. It's an adventure!
I spent the rest of the morning cooking and picking up, and trying to think of a good idea for staying out of the heat today. It was supposed to be 88 degrees and that's far too hot for comfort. When Punkin Pie was finished eating, we entertained ourselves making letters out of sugar packets that we happened to find laying on the table this morning, and read some stories she got with my sister at the library last week. I was skeptical on the stories but she really enjoyed them, and she was quite good at my sugar packet alphabet game. I made letters with the sugar packets and she told me what they were. She knows more than I would expect!
Once The Bean woke up I put my plan of hiding from the heat into action. We packed ourselves up, The Bean in a onesie and one of her new skirts, and went to visit Grandma at her office at the mall. The mall is always a great place to hide on a hot day since it's got lovely air conditioning, and plenty of places for The Bean to play. After we had visited Grandma and walked around for a bit Punkin Pie was getting bored. We sat together on a crazy looking bench and ate some movie theater popcorn, which we both enjoyed. I devised a game for the walk back that I though she might enjoy... the Mall Chair Game.
I don't know about your mall, but ours has lots of different and interested seating available. couches, and odd looking chairs and benches. So our game went like this - as soon as we happened upon a chair or couch that we hadn't sat in yet we would try it out. We progressed in this fashion rather quickly down the mall. Much faster than if she had been walking on her own, and much happier than if I had made her ride in the stroller again with The Bean. For her part, The Bean just enjoyed watching us be crazy.

While we were at the mall and playing our chair game, we also visited a couple of stores and obtained a tank top for each of the girls and a couple of dresses for Punkin Pie. It also occurred to me that we were going to need another 'keep cool' activity so we added a walk over to Rite Aid to our list of things to do and picked up a $10 kiddie pool. Punkin Pie was thrilled! I would call our mall adventure quite a win!
Once home, and The Bean happily tucked away in her bed, Punkin Pie and I worked on filling the pool. I dumped in several buckets of hot water along with the hose water to fill it so that it wouldn't be too cold to enjoy. I had even promised Punkin Pie that she could wear her clothes in the pool (she had spilled lemonade on them anyway). She had such a good time helping me fill the pool, and an even better time when I sprayed her with the hose a couple of times. That started us into a massive water fight which ended in both of us in her kiddie pool. She was so excited that I was in there with her, more so that I was in there with my clothes on too! lol! It was definitely a highlight for us both! I hope I never forget it.
A little while later, I had gone in to make her lunch and she came running in, completely naked and said she needed my help. Apparently she had been whipping her wet clothes around and flung her panties over the fence. Into our next-door-neighbors yard. Not the yard of our best friends. Great.

I never imagined myself going to a neighbor and asking if I could please get my child's wet underwear out of their bushes in their backyard, and I would have been fine missing out on that particular experience. But it was not to be. Today was the day. At least my neighbor is nice and has a good sense of humor, and her own kids!
My pleasant day was rounded out nicely this evening by The Bean, who has started to practice standing. She was sitting on my leg, testing things out and testing how her legs handled her weight. And she stood up, TWICE! She's stood a little before, on Mother's Day, when reaching for something, but today was just standing to try standing. She's getting so big!
Also - the Giants win didn't hurt anything either! My Love and I get to go to tomorrow night's game, I can't wait!
